Rabbit urine comes in a surprisingly wide range of colours, and most of that range is completely normal. Learning what is ordinary for your own rabbit makes it far easier to notice on the rare occasion something genuinely needs a vet's attention.
Diet is the biggest influence. A rabbit eating a lot of carrots, beetroot or dark leafy greens will often have noticeably darker or more orange urine for a day or two afterwards. Dehydration concentrates urine and makes it darker, so a sudden change worth watching for is urine that stays dark despite no obvious dietary cause, especially alongside a rabbit drinking less water than usual.
Plenty of fresh water, a diet built around hay and moderate amounts of leafy greens rather than calcium-heavy foods like alfalfa in adult rabbits, and getting female rabbits spayed all support normal urinary health. Spaying also removes one confusing source of blood in the urine, since reproductive problems in unspayed females can sometimes look like a urinary issue.
Since the healthy range is so wide, the most useful thing an owner can do is get familiar with their own rabbit's usual colour and consistency over a couple of weeks, rather than comparing against a chart alone. A rabbit that always runs slightly orange is not cause for concern, but the same rabbit suddenly producing thick white sludge is a meaningful change worth acting on.
Checking the litter tray while cleaning it, rather than as a separate task, is the easiest way to build this habit without extra effort. A quick glance at colour, thickness and the presence of any grit or sediment takes only a few seconds and is often how owners catch a developing problem well before their rabbit shows any other signs of being unwell.
